Synopsis

More than INR94.42 crore was stolen from Cosmos Bank in August 2018. This year in April a court convicted 11 money mules who took out part of that money via ATMs. Getting convictions is rare in cyber heists. Solving the case was not easy for the cops in Maharashtra. Here’s how they did it.

August 2023 marked five years since INR94.42 crore was syphoned off from Pune’s Cosmos Bank. In April earlier this year, 11 money mules got jail time for their role in the heist. It is obvious that with cybercrime on the rise, there is a need to take more cases to the prosecution stage. While it is often difficult to investigate such cases, the Maharashtra police’s work in cracking the Cosmos case wide enough to convict the money mules shows
