Synopsis

Bank holidays in April: Indian banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month in addition to all Sundays, excluding national and state holidays. So is it a bank holiday today?

Every month, Indian banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays as well as all Sundays apart from National and state-wise holidays, according to the Reserve Bank of India.

It is not a bank holiday today as it is a third Saturday which is a working Saturday of the month. According to the RBI rules, every month first, third and fifth (in applicable) will be the working Saturdays of the month.

However, banks in the state of Tripura will be closed on the occasion of Garia Puja.

Election Bank holiday


The elections will be held in seven stages. The first phase will be held on April 19, the second on April 26, the third on May 7, the fourth on May 13, the fifth on May 20, the sixth on May 25, and the seventh phase on June 1, 2024.

Banks in Bangalore will be closed on April 26 for Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Though many banking transactions can be done online, if work requires help from bank workers, it is necessary to know the bank holiday calendar and organise visits during working days. Regardless of weekends or holidays, online banking services will remain available. Consumers can use mobile applications, ATMs for quick transactions, or the banks' websites to handle their banking needs.

Banks to close their yearly accounts, Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday/Jumat-ul-Vida, Gudhi Padwa/Ugadi Festival/Telugu New Year's Day/Sajibu Nongmapanba (Cheiraoba)/1st Navratra, Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr), Bohag Bihu/Cheiraoba/Baisakhi/Biju Festival, Bohag Bihu/Himachal Day, Shree Ram Navami (Chaite Dasain), Garia Puja.

The Reserve Bank of India has categorised bank holidays into three categories: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Bank Account Closing Holidays.
