Delhi police arrest two involved in 1 Crore diamond robbery from Agra merchant
AGRA: Delhi police on Tuesday arrested two persons including a woman, part of “Thak - Thak” gang, involved in robbery from car of a diamond merchant in Agra. The incident took place near a busy road intersection under the jurisdiction of Lohamandi police station on June 15. The thieves made off with a bag containing diamonds, gold ornaments, and cash amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh.
The value of the diamond ornaments exceeded Rs one crore rupees.
Deputy commissioner of police (South Delhi) Ankit Chouhan says, "We got information about a suspicious woman roaming in the area with jewellery items. The woman was apprehended and on investigation it surfaced that the woman was involved in the recent theft with a diamond merchant in Agra”.
“We recovered 23 diamond items from the lady which is 60% of the items stolen. We have informed Agra police that we have arrested two people, namely Kunal (22) and Geeta (40). Kunal was involved in five previous cases with similar modus operendi in Delhi. Kunal lives under jurisdiction of Ambedkar Nagar police station and Geeta is a resident of Inderpuri area in Delhi. Approx 13 people are involved in the theft. Further investigation is underway...,” the officer said.
The modus operandi of the gang focuses on distracting the driver of a vehicle by knocking at bonnet or begging. Meanwhile, one of the miscreants stole items kept in the car. During interrogation, the woman informed that she was involved in a similar incident in Madhya Pradesh. “It is being investigated that the gang carried out the incident in Agra randomly or on basis of a tip off,” the officer said.
According to a complaint filed by Nitin Mehrotra, while he was on his way, two men flagged that he had a flat tyre. As the merchant got out of his car to check, the miscreants grabbed the bag from his car and fled the spot.
