Bomb hoax emails to Ahmedabad schools sent from Pakistan: Cops
AHMEDABAD: The emails threatening bomb blasts, which were sent to at least 50 schools in the city on the eve of Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat, have been traced to Pakistan, the police said on Friday. The emails were an attempt to spread fear among people ahead of polling, the cops said.
"The emails were sent to the schools from the 'mail.ru' domain in the name of Tauheed Liaquat.
Their aim was to spread fear among voters and Indian citizens," said Sharad Singhal, joint commissioner of police, City Crime Branch. Tauheed Liaquat also operated as Hamad Javed. The person who was operating under these identities was based out of Faisalabad district in Pakistan, Singhal said.
The same person created several bogus accounts under fictitious names on social media platforms among which was an account in the name of Hamad Javed. The platforms were used to spread rumours and fear among Indians, he said.
"It is possible that the account in the name of 'Tauheed Liaquat' was created to spread fear and rumours. But one thing is certain, the mails were sent from the mail.ru domain and the location was Faisalabad cantonment area in Pakistan," he said.
The identity of this accused has been exposed by another agency conducting a honeytrap investigation, the official said.
The person operating as Tauhid Liaquat used various social media platforms, including ICQ, Snapchat, Twitter and Roblex to create multiple identities and disseminate threatening messages. An FIR was filed against the sender of the email under the IPC and the Information Technology Act.
At present, the State Intelligence Bureau (IB), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Central Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) are conducting the investigation.
