BENGALURU: Four years after its first batch graduated, BR Ambedkar School of Economics University (BASE) is set to hold its inaugural convocation for previous batches on June 19, at the university auditorium. Students from 2017-18 to 2022-23 batches will receive the medals and degree certificates .
Four gold medals, 12 rank medals, and 180 rank certificates will be awarded.
Niharika Choudary (BSc Honors economics, 2017-20), Meera Mohan (Integrated MSc economics 2018-2023), Dhanusha Prabhu (MSc economics 2020-22), and Prakhar Rana (MSc economics 2021-23) will receive the gold medals.
NR Bhanumurthy, VC of BASE said: “We couldn’t conduct a convocation ceremony until now for various reasons. Our first batch graduated in 2020, so we couldn’t hold a ceremony for two years due to the pandemic. We also wanted to hold the event on our campus, so we waited until our auditorium was built, which was in 2024.”
C Rangarajan, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India and former chairman of the Prime Minister’s economic advisory council, will be the chief guest. The college currently offers three courses — B.Sc (Honors) in economics, M.Sc economics, and M.Sc financial economics. “Ten out of 12 rank holders and three out of four gold medalists are girls,” noted the VC.
Established in 2017 as an affiliate of BU, the foundation for BASE was laid by then-President Pranab Mukherjee. The academic session was started later that year by former PM Manmohan Singh. In 2019, BASE was made into a unitary university. As a state-funded varsity, it allocates 60% of its seats to students from Karnataka.
