NBE planning extra security measures for NEET-PG

NEW DELHI: NEET-PG, which was postponed recently, is likely to be conducted in August. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) is waiting for “certain clearances” from the govt after which the date will be announced, NBE sources said.
“We need to give the examinees at least four weeks’ time from the date of announcement of exams. So, it is likely that the exam may be held next month only,” they added.NBE is an autonomous body under the health ministry that is responsible for conducting the exams.
The Centre had, on June 22, suddenly postponed NEET-PG in the wake of allegations of paper leak in the NEET-UG, a test to determine eligibility of candidates for admission in undergraduate medical programmes in govt and private medical colleges. Govt said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure and to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of processes of NEET-PG for admission to postgraduate medical courses.
There are nearly 70,000 postgraduate seats in the govt and private medical colleges and more than two lakh candidates have applied for NEET-PG this year, which will determine their eligibility for admission to various specialty courses in both govt and private medical colleges.
Sources in the NBE said the Board is planning to put in place extra security measures to ensure the sanctity of the examination. “We plan to have more invigilators and central command centres to monitor the whole process,” said a source.
