NEW DELHI: Nearly four terrorists were killed in twin encounters in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Officials reported that drone footage of the encounter site revealed four bodies, which could not be recovered due to ongoing gunfire.
Two Army soldiers also lost their lives.
The clashes occurred in the Frisal Chinnigam and Modergam regions of the south Kashmir district.

It occurred during a cordon-and-search operation conducted by security personnel in the Modergam village, located in the south Kashmir district after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists there.
As the security forces were carrying out their duties, terrorists opened fire on them, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Officials confirmed that during this exchange, a soldier of the Indian Army sustained severe injuries. Despite efforts to save him, the soldier succumbed to his injuries.

The operation is still underway as security forces continue to engage with the terrorists.
Earlier in a social media post, Kashmir Zone Police, in a post on social media platform X, said, "Encounter started at Modergam Village of Kulgam District. Police and Security Forces are on job. Further details shall follow".

Notably, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a "spike" in the number of terrorist attacks in the past few months.
In the months of June, three terrorists were neutralised in an encounter with security forces in the Gandoh, Bhaderwah sector of district Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, ADGP Jammu Anand Jain had said.
More details about the encounter are awaited.
