An Oslo court on Thursday found Zaniar Matapour, a 45-year-old Norwegian citizen born in Iran, guilty of murder and terrorism for a deadly shooting spree during Oslo's 2022 Pride celebrations. The attack took place at the London Pub, a prominent venue in Oslo's LGBTQ+ community, resulting in two deaths, nine gunshot injuries, and injuries to 25 others in the vicinity. Described by police as a radicalized Islamist with a background of mental health issues, Matapour stood trial on charges related to murder and aggravated terrorism.

Defense minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday held talks with Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and minister of defence Richard Marles and reviewed various issues related to defence cooperation and discussed closer cooperation between the two nations in the Indo-Pacific. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court to direct the Bihar Government to conduct a thorough structural audit of all existing and under-construction bridges in the state. The petition also calls for the demolition or retrofitting of weak structures in response to recent bridge collapses. The petitioner, advocate Brajesh Singh, urged the top court to issue these directives to the Bihar Government.

An examining magistrate on Wednesday charged prominent arthouse film director Benoit Jacquot with alleged rape, the Paris prosecutor's office said, in a high-profile case in France's MeToo movement. Jacquot, 77, has been charged with raping actors Julia Roy, now 34, in 2013 and Isild Le Besco, now 41, between 1998 and 2000, it said.

Senior BJP leader and former MLA Aditya Madhi died at a hospital here on Wednesday. He was 50.Madhi was elected to the state assembly from Malkangiri constituency in 2019. However, the BJP denied him a ticket in this year's election and fielded Narsingh Madkami, who won the seat.

BSF troops Wednesday nabbed a Pakistani national, a teenage boy, near the International Border (IB) here, officials said. According to the BSF, the troops observed the movement of a person in the morning hours near the border fence. The boy tried to escape, after which the BSF troops chased and apprehended him. He is being questioned by the BSF and other agencies to know about his motive of crossing the IB, officials said. PTI sources said the boy was aged around 15.

A man died while another was injured after a fight broke out over splashing roadside logged rain water on a few men in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar on Wednesday evening, police said. The incident took place when an auto-rickshaw got out of order and the occupants of the vehicle were busy in rectifying it. Meanwhile, a water tanker passed through the road, causing the logged rain water to splash on the occupants of auto-rickshaw - Arif Khan alias Vishu (18), Shakeel (18), Durga (24) and others.

Floods in Assam have so far claimed 46 lives. Eight people died on Wednesday in the state after drowning in flood waters.

According to the flood report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 8 people died in the last 24 hours in the state including 2 in Sonitpur district, one each in Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Darrang, Golaghat, Biswanath and Tinsukia district, taking the total death toll to 46 while 3 others are missing.

The overall flood situation in the state is still critical as over 16.25 lakh people of 29 districts have been affected by the second wave of flood.

The flood affected districts are Goalpara, Nagaon, Nalbari, Kamrup, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, South Salmara, Dhubri, Jorhat, Charaideo, Hojai, Karimganj, Sivasagar, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Hailakandi, Golaghat, Darrang, Biswanath, Cachar, Kamrup (M), Tinsukia, Karbi Anglong, Chirang, Karbi Anglong West, Majuli.
