Bengaluru: BBMP has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized flexes and advertisements across Bengaluru, clearing over 3,800 such installations and collecting Rs 75,000 in fines. Legal action is being taken against offenders, with 76 complaints filed at police stations and 48 FIRs registered so far.
Acting on instructions from deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, BBMP decided to eradicate unauthorized advertisements within its jurisdiction.
BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has issued directives, and Munish Moudgil, special commissioner of revenue (BBMP), is conducting daily review meetings with officers from all eight zones to ensure compliance.
“I’ve instructed the officials to remove all unauthorized advertisements and file FIRs against those responsible,” Moudgil said. From June 1 till date, 3,843 flexes, banners, LEDs, and hoardings have been removed citywide.
Under the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Corporation Outdoor Billboard and Public Message Sub Rules-2018, billboards are prohibited in residential areas and on private properties. The rules also ban unauthorized placement of advertisements on flexes, banners, buntings, posters, and flags. tnn
