CHITRADURGA: At least four people onboard a speeding car were killed after it rammed into a container lorry near Chikkabennur village on National Highway-48 in Chitradurga district on Saturday morning. Three passengers of the car, including an infant, were killed on the spot, while another succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.

The other four persons sustained severe injuries, and their condition is critical. They have been shifted to a private hospital in Davanagere. The deceased persons were identified as Prajval Reddy, 30, Harshita, 28, and two-year-old Sohan on the spot, with Vijay Reddy being pronounced dead at the hospital. The injured persons, Shilpa, Swarna George, Madhumitha, and Shichikrishna, are in critical condition. The victims are residents of Thanisandra, Bengaluru North.
The incident occurred when the car, travelling towards Goa from Bengaluru, hit the rear side of the truck. After the accident, the car was severely damaged, with its top ripped off. The lorry container hit the highway sidewall and overturned, but fortunately, the lorry container's driver and cleaner sustained only minor injuries in the incident. The car passengers belonged to two families and were heading to Goa for the weekend. Further details are awaited.
"The car was going towards Goa from Bengaluru when it rammed into the rear side of the truck on NH-48. Three people died on the spot, and one on the way to the hospital. The other four injured persons were shifted to a private hospital in Davanagere in an ambulance. Prima facie, it appears the container suffered a tyre burst, which led to its sudden deceleration. The Fortuner car was travelling at a very high speed and could not anticipate the container's slowdown, failing to control the vehicle and hitting the container," the police suspected.
