Karnataka seeks NEET retest & investigation
CM Siddaramaiah on Saturday urged the Centre to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of tampering with the NEET-UG-2024 results.
MYSURU/BENGALURU: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday urged the Centre to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of tampering with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Undergraduate (NEET-UG)-2024 results. He demanded a re-examination in the interest of state's students.
"Suspicion of massive irregularities in the results of NEET, which is the gateway to medical courses, is being expressed across the country.
Students have been treated unfairly. Many have been assigned ranks, which is a great injustice to those who had worked hard. Grace marks should not be given to pass students. Re-exams should be conducted because the students should not suffer injustice," he told the media.
Since the NEET-UG exam results were released on June 4, numerous allegations of irregularities, malpractice, paper leaks, and inflated cut-offs have emerged, causing concern among aspirants and the public. Several petitions have been filed in the SC, seeking re-examination and an investigation.
Meanwhile, the NTA told the Supreme Court on Thursday that the scorecards of 1563 candidates who got "grace marks" in the NEET-UG exam will be cancelled and the candidates will have a chance to reappear for the exam on June 23 and the results will be declared before June 30.
'BJP indulging in vindictive politics'
Siddaramaiah denied the allegations of BJP and JD(S) that his govt is indulging in vindictive politics, particularly following an arrest warrant issued against ex- CM BS Yediyurappa in a Pocso case.
"When they (BJP) booked cases against us, was it not targeted? Against me, against DK Shivakumar (deputy CM), Rahul Gandhi (Congress leader) cases were booked, what should that be called? They had cancelled Rahul Gandhi's membership (of Lok Sabha). Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been sent to jail. Should that be called hate politics or love politics? I have not done it so far. I have not come to politics yesterday or today. It (vindictive politics) is BJP's job," he alleged. The CM also said the govt will conduct the local body elections. "It will be conducted when the govt decides," he said.
