BENGALURU: A 17-year-old student who waded into Kommaghatta lake near Kumbalgodu, Ramanagara Rural, drowned on Tuesday evening.
The deceased is N Jitendra, an ITI student and resident of Nandini Layout.
According to police, Jitendra, a student of Government Polytechnic College in Goraguntepalya, went to the lake with some friends and drowned after wading into the water.
The teenager from Andhra Pradesh is survived by parents and younger brother.
His father T Nagabhushan told police Jitendra left home at 8.30am Tuesday, telling his parents he was going to college. “When he failed to return home, I called him on his mobile and got no response. I visited the college at 6pm and the gates were locked. Around 7.30pm, someone called me saying Jitendra had drowned in the lake. I rushed to the spot and found he and friends Swaraj, Venu and Somashekhar had waded into the water. Jitendra didn’t know how to swim, so I don’t suspect any foul play,” Nagabhushan said in the complaint.
