Chandigarh: Three days after the video of the attack on students from Sikkim went viral, the UT police on Friday claimed the initial assault had taken place outside Institute of Technology and Future Trends (ITFT), Mullanpur, Mohali, on December 8.
Mohali police, however, claimed no complaint was received and the assault took place in the jurisdiction of Chandigarh.
Mullanpur SHO Iqbal Singh, said, "The incident took place in Chandigarh. An FIR was registered by our counterparts. We were called by ITFT management, which did not lodge any complaint on December 8."
Inspector Narinder Patial of Sector 11 police station said, "The footage going viral is of the clash between north-east and Himachal students outside ITFT in Mullanpur. The FIR registered by UT police belongs to the attack that took place at Khuda Lahora."
Sources told TOI, "The clash could have been averted if the ITFT authorities acted promptly. The management instead attempted to cover up the incident."
However, ITFT managing director Aman Sharma said, "A report was sent to Punjab Technical University (PTU), with which our institute is affiliated. The exams are going on. After that, disciplinary action will be taken against the 10 students arrested by Chandigarh police."

An FIR was registered at Sector 11 police station. The 10 arrested accused were Ajay Kumar, Sunny Thakur, Manu Thakur, Vishal, Anil, Rohit, Pardeep, Vijay, Sandeep and Gurjant.
