Chennai rain: Depression crosses Tamil Nadu coast; interior districts likely to get showers
CHENNAI: Heavy rain is forecast over isolated places in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tirupattur, Erode and Salem districts of Tamil Nadu after a depression formed over the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast between Puducherry and Chennai between 3am and 4am on Friday.
A Met department bulletin said that it the system was located 60km south-southwest of Chennai and 60km north northeast of Puducherry.
"It is likely to move west northwest and weaken into a low pressure in the next 12 hours."
The presence of the depression will bring rain and squally wind for six hours.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea off south Andhra, TN and Puducherry coast for six hours.
Chennai and neighbouring districts received rain: The rainfall status as of 7.30am: Nungambakkam - 45mm, Meenambakkam-54, MRC Nagar - 44.5, Taramani - 32, Nandanam – 20 and Villivakkam - 44.
Other areas: Puducherry: 192mm, Tiruvannamalai, 102mm, Vellore - 58mm, Cuddalore - 30mm, Salem - 25mm.
