Chennai receives heavy rain; more showers likely this evening

CHENNAI: Heavy rain with lightning lashed Chennai and its suburbs in the early hours of Tuesday.
Poonamallee recorded 109mm which poured between 1.30am and 3.30am. Till 5.30am Meenambakkam recorded 68.6mm, Nungambakkam 8.4mm, Ennore port 1mm, Chembarambakkam 76.5mm, NIOT Pallikaranai 73.9mm, ACS Medical College 65mm, Sathyabhama University 57.5mm, Tambaram 35.5mm, Anna University 31mm, YMCA Nandanam 22.5mm and Villivakkam 11mm.
The thunderstorm was due to the convergence of opposing winds which were then pushed over the city and the suburbs by the westerlies.
Bloggers said there was a chance for rainfall on Tuesday evening, as well.
