CHENNAI: The disappointement of last week when rain skipped core areas may be offset, with IMD forecasting thunderstorms with light to moderate rain at least for the next two days in the city and heavy rain over parts of southern and interior TN.
Meteorologists and bloggers said the city has better chances for rain next week due to a trough extending to southern peninsular India.

"There are 50% chances for light rain and thunderstorms in the city on Saturday. But the possibility for rain is more between April 30 and May 2," said N Senthamarai Kannan, director, regional weather forecasting centre, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), IMD.
For the next 48 hours, the city and the suburbs are likely to get thunderstorms and lightning with light/moderate rainfall over some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36-37 deg C and 27-28 deg C, a statement from the IMD said.
