CHENNAI: The city is likely to receive light
rainfall in the next two days due to the presence of a trough or an elongated area of relatively low pressure. Some parts of south Tamil Nadu and delta districts may also recieve rainfall this weekend.
An IMD bulletin said a trough running from west Vidarbha to north Tamil Nadu across Marathwada and interior Karnataka at 0.9km above mean sea level could bring rain.
"For the next 48 hours, the city and the suburbs are likely to receive
light rainfall over some areas. Sky condition may be partly cloudy. Maximum and minimum temperatures may be around 31 deg C and 23 deg C," the IMD said.
While some pockets of interior Tamil Nadu may experience mist/haze on Friday, IMD has forecast light rainfall at one or two places over south Tamil Nadu, delta districts and Karaikal area on February 3.
The city receives the lowest monthly rainfall of 3.4mm in February.
Private forecasters and bloggers said day temperatures may rise in coastal areas, including Chennai, by a degree or two and in the interior areas by two to three degrees in the coming days. Day temperatures may stay above normal till April and El Nino may have a role to play as recorded in several previous El Nino years.
