CHENNAI: A 38-year-old head constable, on duty and in uniform, was chased and attacked with a knife by her husband in full public view in Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu on Monday morning. He managed to flee after the attack. Head constable Dilli Rani had been assigned duty at the Ekambaranathar Temple in Kancheepuram. She was returning home from the temple after her duty when the attack took place, reports Sindhu Kannan.
While she was near a market, her husband, Meghanathan (40) confronted her, but she avoided him.
Enraged, he pushed her and pulled out a knife. Dilli Rani got up and tried to get inside an ATM room. But he stabbed her on the hand and stomach repeatedly before fleeing the scene as a crowd began to gather and tried to catch him.
Police took Dilli Rani to Kancheepuram govt hospital, from where she was shifted to the Govt Stanley Medical College and Hospital in Chennai. Her condition is said to be critical. Dilli Rani and Meganathan, who have two children, had differences of opinion and got into frequent arguments. They often separated and patched up after their parents' intervention.
