Two arrested for stealing iron rods from CMRL site in Chennai

CHENNAI: Police arrested two men on Saturday, including a contract worker, for stealing seven tonnes of iron rods from a Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) construction site near Medavakkam the previous night.
Those arrested were identified as Khadar Ali Khan, 38, of Mangadu, and his friend, Francis, 34. Khadar Ali Khan was employed as a contract worker at a CMRL site in Medavakkam, where construction is underway for the Medavakkam-Sholinganallur line.On Friday night, the site supervisor noticed several tonnes of iron rods missing and alerted police. Investigations revealed that a truck was used to load the iron rods. Following this, police alerted all checkpoints, and a truck was intercepted near Pallikaranai.
Police seized the stolen iron rods from the truck and arrested the two men. During investigations, police found that Khan left the door to the site open, and helped Francis bring the lorry in and take the loot. They were produced before a magistrate and sent to jail.
