Ghaziabad: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly shot at by a man in Dundahera village on Wednesday after her mother refused to let him marry her. As of Wednesday night, the girl is undergoing treatment while the shooter has been taken into custody, police said.
The shooter was identified as Ravi Raj, who works at a shop in the area. Raj is already married and has two children with his wife.
However, he has allegedly been involved with the girl for over a year now. Raj’s wife had previously filed a complaint against him due to the affair, police said.
According to ACP (Wave City) Poonam Mishra, the girl had dropped out of school after class 8 and had been living at home with her family in Dundahera for the past three years. “She was involved with Raj for the past one-and-a-half years, and the latter was pressuring her for marriage,” ACP Mishra said.
On Wednesday, Raj allegedly went to the girl’s house and demanded that her mother let them get married. The mother refused. “Raj asked for the mother’s help to find him an auto rickshaw to leave. When the mother left the house, he allegedly shot the girl on the forehead,” the ACP explained.
The girl was taken to the hospital and referred for further treatment. Meanwhile, police officials arrived on the scene and Raj was taken into custody, police said.
An FIR was being registered against Raj late on Wednesday night under Section 109 of the BNS at Crossings Republik police station. This section, which covers attempt to murder, replaces Section 307 of the IPC. Further investigation is underway, police added.
