Again, cops fail to deliver summons to intel officer’s wife in Assagao case
Panaji: Goa police on Sunday failed to deliver the second summons to Mumbai resident Pooja Sharma, an accused in the Assagao demolition case. The notice, issued under Section 41A of the CrPC, couldn't be delivered as she wasn't at her residence, said a senior police officer.
The crime branch had asked local police to serve the notice to Sharma, the wife of a senior intelligence officer.
Earlier, Anjuna police had issued summons to her, but they too failed to deliver it.
Several other persons involved in the demolition have been arrested, but Sharma is yet to join the investigation. TOI reported on Sunday that state govt sent a detailed report on the Assagao demolition incident to the Union ministry of home affairs.
Earlier, this newspaper had exclusively reported on Anjuna police’s report on director general of police (DGP) Jaspal Singh’s alleged role in the incident.
On Friday morning, crime branch SP Rahul Gupta raised doubts about the report’s authenticity, but Anjuna PI Prashal Dessai said that he himself submitted it to the North Goa SP, who forwarded it to the chief secretary.
On Monday, Sawant had directed police to arrest all the accused involved in the demolition. Anjuna police then arrested excavator operator Pradeep Rana, 38, from Jharkhand, and 51-year-old Dona Paula resident and real estate businessman Arshad Khawaja.

On Friday, a day after the case was shifted to the crime branch, it arrested three women bouncers for their involvement in the case. So far, the crime branch has arrested six persons and Anjuna police two.
“Five of these six were present at the spot and the sixth conspired with the main accused and gave his vehicle for the commission of the offence,” Gupta had said. “We have seized two vehicles that were used in the commission of the offence.”
On Saturday, the crime branch registered a second FIR Mohamed Imran Salmani, 34, resident of Cortalim, under various sections of the IPC. The crime branch has already arrested him for his involvement in the case, a senior officer said.
