POINGUINIM:
Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday called upon teachers to not just prepare children to pass exams but to also prepare them for competitive exams. He also said that a tribal museum vis-a-vis a
tribal research centre would come up soon.
He was speaking after governor
P S Sreedharan Pillai inaugurated the New Ashram School at Mushifond, near Poinguinim. The school was built with central funds.
Sawant said that the New Ashram School, which was started in 1994, has finally been completed after spending Rs 35 crore from the tribal welfare funds.
This is one of the best schools in the state and will accommodate 500-plus students from Pernem to Canacona, he said.
The CM said that his government does not just provide infrastructure, but human resources too, with due training imparted at regular intervals.
The governor said that the government of India has allocated substantial funds for the progress and development of the Scheduled Tribes (ST) population and formulated several schemes in this regard.
The Goa Government is giving top priority to the social and economic upliftment of the ST community and building infrastructure in tribal dominated areas, he said.
Students who will take benefit of the New Ashram School will surely be the driving force in the socio-economic development of tribal youth in Goa in the near future, Pillai said during his address.
