Huda busy with flood, city without water

Huda busy with flood, city without water
Gurgaon: While Huda officials were busy with flood control measures, Gurgaonites faced a severe water crisis. Many areas including DLF Phase I, III, Sushant Lok I, sectors 17, 18, 21, 23, 46, 47, 49 and 57 didn’t get water supply on Friday and Saturday.
The water supply is limited to barely five buckets per household and people are dependent on water tankers.
“The residents of DLF Phase I and III are not getting adequate water supply for the past two days.
the problem arises every time supply from Huda is short. It is owing to inadequate water storage in the area,” alleged T S Satishan from Qutub Enclave RWA.
“The roads are under water but there is not a drop in my house for the past two days. We are dependent on water tankers and bottled water,” said Rama Patil, a resident of Sushant Lok I.
“We faced five-hour outages on Friday and Saturday,” said Dhruv Bansal, resident of DLF Phase I. “Power comes and goes. Also, there has been no water supply since Thursday evening,” he said. Bansal said that because it’s primarily the developer’s job to supply water, the civic authorities have always given them the cold shoulder.
The locals, meanwhile, have been depending on tankers to meet their water needs.
HUDA officials, on the other hand, are busy cleaning drains and managing choke points in the city. “Everyone is busy managing floods as instructed by higher authorities,” a HUDA official said.

Power supply is affected mostly at odd hours with severe fluctuation reported in the morning, residents claimed. “We have been facing outages and every time we call the developer, it reports a technical fault,” said Preeti Podder, another resident. She said that sometimes the water they get is muddy and unfit for consumption.
Residents of DLF Phase III blamed unauthorised construction for the water crisis. “Seven-storey houses stand on plots where originally two-storey ones were planned. Obviously this puts pressure on the water line,” said Rashi Singh, a resident of DLF Phase III.
When reached for a comment, the developer said there was an issue with water supply. “The supply is affected from the Basai water treatment plant which comes under Huda. When we enquired they cited some power default and assured us that the supply would be restored by Saturday evening,” a DLF official said.
“There were some issues with leakage in the supply line at some points and also some of the wires developed faults owing to excessive rain, which in turn led to supply being disrupted,” a senior Huda official said. “But it was only for a few hours,” he said. The official said the supply will be restored by Saturday night.
Regarding power, DHBVN officials said the transformers in the area keep developing faults owing to excessive load.
RWAs also said that inadequate supply from HUDA was behind the crisis. “We are doing our best to distribute water equally among residents. Water rationing is bound to take place. However, we can't do much if HUDA doesn't provide enough water,” said an official spokesperson for DLF City RWA.
