GUWAHATI: Gauhati University (GU) has uncovered an alleged misuse of data by the unit head of a software company, ITI Limited, a central govt enterprise stationed at the varsity, in connection with the mark sheet scandal that has engulfed the institute. So far, 10 individuals have been detained in connection with the scam.
GU, in a statement on Sunday, said the suspected activities in the software database by the unit head of ITI Limited are being examined and verified.
“The unauthorised handling of updates has been done at the highest level of the engaged software company positioned at GU, who happens to be the unit head of ITI Limited (A govt of India undertaking),” read the statement. ITI Limited is engaged in running the online system, which involves mainly examination-related work, at GU, since 2016-17.
GU officials said necessary suspected software database access logs have been collected, and as an immediate measure, all access to the engaged company has been restricted.
“The upper hierarchy of the ITI Limited are already summoned. A high-power confidential committee is also examining the entire matter to look at the extent of damage caused by suspected activities of the unit head of ITI Limited,” the GU release said, adding that the university authority is also extending necessary cooperation to the investigating agencies in connection with the case.
