Will Siddaramaiah keep his promise to adopt Badami?
HUBBALLI: The people of Badami are elated as they have pinned their hopes on CM designate Siddaramaiah to change the face of Badami.
Siddaramaiah assured that he will adopt Badami if he becomes CM during his campaign seeking votes for B Chimmankatti, a local Congress candidate last month. Siddaramaiah, who is all set to be sworn in as CM, has rekindled the hopes of turning Badami constituency into a model segment in the state.
When Siddaramaiah was facing political uncertainty in 2018, he contested from two constituencies - Chamundeshwari and Badami. He was defeated in Chamundeshwari and won from Badami constituency by defeating BJP’s Sriramulu by a slender margin of votes. The people of Badami have supported and stood by Siddaramaiah.
After winning from Badami, Siddaramaiah developed an emotional connection with the constituency and claimed that Badami has a special place in his heart since it has given him political rebirth. To pay back the love and affection showered on him by Badami residents, Siddaramaiah used to visit the constituency regularly, hold review meetings and inspect development works.
Badami has seen a lot of progress after Siddaramaiah was elected as MLA from here, many roads have been developed and water problems have been solved, said people. Though Badami is one of the important tourist places in North Karnataka, it was completely neglected without proper basic facilities. Siddaramaiah tried his best to implement several projects to provide basic amenities in this place during his five-year tenure, said local people.
Badami residents also exerted pressure on him to contest in 2023 from the segment. While Siddaramaiah chose to contest from Varuna, he promised to adopt Badami if he was appointed CM.
Development works worth more than Rs 3,500 crore were implemented in Badami by Siddaramaiah. Many villages in Badami are now getting drinking water supply because of Siddaramaiah’s efforts to implement drinking water projects and fill lakes in the segment.
“We are 100% confident that Siddaramaiah will keep his word and visit Badami immediately after taking oath as the new CM to initiate the process to adopt Badami constituency,” said Mahesh Hosagoudar, General secretary, KPCC, OBC wing.
“Siddaramaiah is so close to Badami that he knows people by their names. We are extremely happy that he is going to take oath as our CM on Saturday. More than 20,000 people from Badami are travelling to Bengaluru to witness the swearing-in ceremony,” he said.
