12-year-old girl opens 12th library
Hyderabad: Akarshana Sathish, a class 8 student, has set up her 12th library with as many as 400 Telugu books at the AIDS orphanage in Pocharam village.
The 12-year-old student of Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, started collecting books to open libraries in 2021 when she and her parents visited the MNJ Cancer Children Hospital in the city to provide food for the young patients.

During their visit, she noticed that the children were asking for colourful books, which ignited her passion for collecting books. Akarshana started collecting used books from her neighbours, classmates and relatives and managed to collect over 7,000 used books. Using this treasure trove, she set up six libraries, each serving different communities. Her libraries offer a wide range of books, including Hindi, English, Telugu, fiction, non-fiction and general knowledge books. tnn
