Telangana: ‘2,800 ryot families yet to get govt aid’
HYDERABAD: Farmers groups have asked the Telangana govt to honour its election promise of providing ex-gratia to the families of farmers who died by suicide owing to the agrarian crisis. The demand comes as several families are still awaiting relief.
Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV), an advocacy group for farmers, said that 2,800 families were yet to receive any form of relief that was promised by the previous BRS regime.
According to RSV, out of 125 suicides reported during the Congress govt, only 82 families got Rythu Bima insurance benefit.
Kondal Reddy, convenor of RSV, said that between 2014-2023, around 7,000 farmer suicides have been reported, and only 1,600 families received ex-gratia following court orders.
