HYDERABAD: A stand-up show by comic Daniel Fernandes at a restaurant in Jubilee Hills was cancelled on Saturday after BJP MLA T Raja Singh threatened to disrupt it.
Raja Singh released a video threatening to beat up Fernandes if he went ahead with the show. He was upset over the comic’s alleged objectionable jokes about the Jain community. After the video went viral, cops reached the restaurant to find out more about the show.
But by then, the organisers had cancelled the event.

“The event had been planned by a third party organiser at the restaurant. In fact, they did not inform us about the arrangements beforehand. If they had, we would have provided them security,” a police officer told STOI.
Fernandes had recently joked about members of the Jain community dressing up as Muslims to save goats from being slaughtered on Bakri Eid. The MLA said Fernandes should either cancel his show or face wrath of his supporters.
In Aug 2022, another stand up comic, Munawar Faruqui, had faced Raja Singh’s ire with the MLA threatening to stall the show in protest against his objectionable jokes.
