Youths detained after protest at TGPSC office
Hyderabad: Despite police trying to foil the siege of Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) office by making ‘midnight arrests’ of student leaders in districts, the Telangana Unemployed JAC along with several student organisations on Friday managed to hold a protest at the commission’s office demanding postponement of Group II exam and a fresh notification for both Group II and Group III by adding fresh vacancies.

Seek fresh notification

The protesters said that the previous BRS govt had notified 783 Group II posts and 1,373 Group III posts while there were more than 5,000 vacancies in various departments. They demanded that the Congress govt keep its poll promise by issuing a fresh notification.
They demanded that the Group II exam scheduled to be held on Aug 7 and 8 be postponed until Dec, and both Group II and Group III tests be conducted within a gap of 15 days.
“It is the Congress which promised to revise Group II and Group III vacancies. Now, they are not even responding even when thousands of youngsters have come on the streets,” said Madakam Mithra, who completed her MBA in 2017.
She said that the unemployed youth were depressed as they had to wait for years for job notifications and then face issues such as paper leaks. On Friday, thousands of unemployed youth from across the state made their way to the TGPSC office. Many of them were stopped and moved to various police stations. “Many of us managed to go near the commission’s office, but we were immediately picked up by police. All we are asking is to revise the number of vacancies,” said M Umesh, who has applied for both Group II and Group III. Hyderabad police detained 300 protesters who were later released the same day.

“Only persons linked to the protest were taken into preventive arrest. In fact, at the commission, we allowed job aspirants who came for certificate verification for different jobs offered by the commission into the premises,” said DCP (Central Zone) Akshansh Yadav to TOI.
KTR reacts
Condemning the arrest of unemployed youth on Friday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao demanded that the Congress immediately release a job calendar and fill vacancies as promised by them during the assembly elections. He claimed the Congress made false promises for votes. KTR also demanded that CM issue an apology.
“The Congress which claimed to deliver Praja Palana in manifesto is now resorting to dictatorship. Student leaders who are questioning it are being arrested,” he said.
