Rain pain continues for Raj Bhavan road in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The Raj Bhavan road in Somajiguda, a crucial thoroughfare used regularly by the governor, the state’s first citizen, is itself lying in deplorable state with severe water logging issues.
Despite its proximity to the Raj Bhavan and its significance, this road is not immune to the problems that plague other low-lying areas or pothole-ridden stretches.

Even moderate rainfall leads to knee-deep water accumulation on a 200 metre stretch along Lake View guest house. When it rains, the excess water from Errum Manzil and nearby upstream areas surges out of the manholes and floods Raj Bhavan road.
The situation leads to traffic congestion and delays, affecting thousands of commuters who rely on this route daily. Sharing her harrowing experience while traveling along Raj Bhavan road, K Priyamvadha, an employee at a private bank in Khairatabad said, “It took more than 20 minutes to cross the 200 metre stretch on Wednesday evening following a heavy downpour. I urge the civic body to devise a lasting solution to address this recurring problem, as it poses significant challenges for individuals navigating the area during rains.”

Arjun Singh, a regular commuter who often travels via Raj Bhavan to Begumpet, expressed his frustration when his car became trapped in the stormwater. “To navigate through the stormwater, he had to press down on the accelerator, which I found exasperating. The problem of waterlogging and slow-moving traffic creates difficulties for us while attempting to pass through the area during heavy rainfall events,” he said.
According to GHMC, the water flow from stormwater lines in Somajiguda to nala going along Hussainsagar from Errum Manzil while passing along Raj Bhavan road is slow and thereby, the water is accumulating here in this catchment area. The reduced flow rate is preventing the efficient discharge of stormwater, leading to waterlogging in the vicinity.
“The team of engineers conducted a thorough assessment of the impacted region within Raj Bhavan, aiming to devise a long-term resolution. As part of their plan, they intend to draft a comprehensive budget proposal. Furthermore, the engineers have outlined a strategy to construct additional storm water lines at the Lake View guest house. ,” said a senior GHMC official.
