Telangana govt clears Rs 150 crore dues to three liquor firms
HYDERABAD: Telangana govt cleared a small portion of dues to the tune of 150 crore to three liquor companies out of the total 4,000 crore dues it owed to the companies that supply liquor to Telangana State Beverages Corporation.
Several liquor companies are upset with the govt as pending dues of only three companies had been cleared. More than 200 companies supply liquor to the state-run beverages corporation.
When the Congress govt took over in Dec 2023, the pending dues stood at 3,000 crore, which soon swelled to 4,000 crore.
While several areas in the state continue to report liquor shortage, the companies supplying liquor want the govt to first clear their long-pending dues. “With a new govt taking charge in AP, the liquor firms are expecting that big brands will be brought back into AP. Some of them are eyeing to set up units in that state,” sources said. Meanwhile, sources said the govt’s plans to increase liquor prices will take shape soon.
