IMPHAL: Thousands of people participated in a rally organised by Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Cocomi), a prominent civil body of the state, here on Friday seeking territorial integrity of the state.

After the march, a public meeting was held at the Khuman Lampak sports complex in Imphal East district in which a host of resolutions were taken. Among others, the meeting decided that steps should be taken by the Centre and the state govt to implement NRC immediately to deport illegal immigrants from Manipur.

The development comes three days after a large number of people belonging to the Kuki-Chin community rallied in Kangpoki, Tengnoupal and Churachandpur districts, reiterating their demand for a separate administration for them in the state.

So far, over 220 people have been killed in the unceasing conflict that unfolded on May 3 last year.

Friday’s march joined by around one lakh people belonging to different communities began from a ground in the Thangmeiband area of Imphal West district and passed through streets in the city before converging at Khuman Lampak where the public meeting was convened. Two MLAs — Nishikant Sapam and Thangjam Arunkumar Singh — also joined the rally.

The meeting also resolved that Manipur’s integrity should not be fractured at any cost and the Centre should immediately stop its “sectarian policy to eradicate the indigenous people of Manipur.”
