Indore: The professor who had killed an elderly woman and injured three others on Thursday evening was released on a notice from Annapurna police station a day later. Police said that the section of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was increased against him.
An 85-year-old woman from Gujarat was killed and three others including a pregnant woman were seriously injured after a 50-year-old math professor Ashutosh Satapathy went on a rampage hitting two vehicles with his hatchback on a busy Annapurna street.
The professor told police during interrogations that he had left his house angry and drunk after a dispute with his family members and hit the two-wheelers.
DCP Rishikesh Meena said, “The accused was produced before the court on Friday but since this was a noticeable offence, he was allowed to leave. Section 105 of the BNS for culpable homicide not amounting to murder was increased against the accused. But he was released on a notice.”
He added that earlier a case of rash driving and causing hurt by act endangering life and safety of others was registered against the accused but after the injured woman died, the sections were increased.
Saroj Dubey, resident of Gujarat and her relative Khushi Sharma, resident of Aerodrome, two others Prachi, wife of Hemant, resident of South Toda and Nilima were injured in the accident.
While Saroj succumbed to injuries, others were discharged after treatment. The body of the woman was handed over to the kin after autopsy and they took it back to Gujarat where the final rites were conducted. TNN
