JAIPUR:
BJP's Bharatpur candidate, Ramswaroop Koli, aged 59, firmly believes that there’s no age limit to completing one’s education. Thirteen years after being elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Bayana, Koli achieved his higher secondary qualification in 2017 at the age of 52.
Inspired by state minister Kirori Lal Meena, Koli now aspires to pursue a BA and LLB.
"Is there a specific age to obtain an educational qualification? If Kirori Lalji can get enrolled in LLB at a later age, why can’t I? I want to continue studying. I have plans to pursue law," Koli told TOI, adding that he would soon enroll in a BA.LLB course.
Meena, who is a doctor by profession, said he had enrolled in a law course at Rajasthan University in 2013, but it was discontinued after six months. The Bharatpur candidate from the BJP, Koli, who represented the Bayana Lok Sabha constituency from 2004 to 2009, disclosed in his election affidavit that he cleared the higher secondary school examination in 2017 from the National Institute of Open Schooling in Noida.
Interestingly, Koli’s 2004 election affidavit revealed that the former MP was an 8th-grade pass at that time.
As per his 2024 affidavit, Koli’s income source is the pension he receives as a former MP. He has declared total assets worth Rs 78.1 lakh. However, his total assets were worth Rs 10 lakh in 2004. Koli is contesting against Congress party’s Sanjna Jatav for the Bharatpur LS seat.
