Mason kills wife after argument over booze in Jaipur, held

JAIPUR: Ramnagaria station police in Jaipur have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife by strangulation and hitting her with a hammer. The accused, identified as Gopal, was a mason by profession and lived with his wife Puja and two sons in Srikrishnapura area under Ramnagaria police station for the past five years.
According to the police, the incident took place on June 14 when Gopal and Puja had a scuffle over his excessive drinking habit.Puja, who worked as a daily wage labourer, had asked Gopal not to continue drinking, which led to a heated argument between the couple. In a fit of rage, Gopal allegedly hit Puja with a hammer and strangled her to death.
After committing the heinous crime, Gopal reportedly sat beside his wife’s body for some time. When the neighbours inquired about Puja’s disappearance, he bluntly told them that he had killed her. However, the neighbours dismissed it as a joke, not realizing the gravity of the situation.
Police revealed that the couple had been fighting continuously for a long time due to Gopal’s habit of coming home in an inebriated condition. The neighbours also confirmed this fact during the investigation.
The murder came to light on June 14 when Puja’s relatives visited their home and found her body lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the police, who rushed to the spot along with a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and a dog squad.
Upon inspection, it was evident that Puja had been hit hard on her head, and blood was oozing out of her body. With Gopal missing from the scene, the police suspected his involvement in the murder.
After a thorough investigation, the police team managed to detain Gopal on Sunday morning and formally arrested him in the evening. The accused has been charged with murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
