Jaipur: Ensure there are no leakages in drinking water pipelines or taps at your households, and refrain from using household water to clean the street in front of your house, or you may face either a one-time fine of Rs 1,000 or a recurring fine of Rs 50 per day, or even have your water supply cut off.
A circular issued by the public health and engineering department (PHED) prohibits the use of water supplied for domestic purposes for non-domestic purposes.
It categorises eight such purposes where domestic water cannot be used. These include any commercial activities, building purposes, gardening (except for households), filling swimming pools, ornamental usage, restaurants or eateries, watering of streets, and washing vehicles meant for sale or to be given on rent.
If a departmental official finds leakages from pipelines or taps at households, the residents are liable to be punished. “Any violation of these prohibitions may attract a penalty of Rs 1,000 and may extend to Rs 50 per day until the residents repair the snag. The department has been asked to cut off the water supply to the premises,” said a PHED official.
“We have identified a few marriage gardens and construction companies using a huge quantity of domestic water for commercial purposes. We have also seen residents not repairing their pipelines for days, despite significant water leakage. Such a circular is the need of the hour. We are serious about implementing this circular and will take exemplary action against the offenders,” PHED secretary Samit Sharma said.
