Kanpur: The district administration will deploy 1,243 police personnel on Thursday (March 10) for security during counting of votes of the UP assembly elections.
Counting of votes will take place at Naveen Galla Mandi in Naubasta area of the city. Polling was conducted for 10 assembly seats in the district on February 20.
The Commissionerate police said that the security of the counting place will be three-tier, in which 1,243 personnel, including paramilitary forces, policemen and home guards will be deployed.

Two deputy commissioners of police, three additional deputy commissioners of police, eight assistant commissioners of police, 30 inspectors, 150 inspectors, 230 HCPs, 520 constables, 50 intelligence personnel and 250 home guards, will be deployed at Naubasta Galla Mandi, where counting of votes will take place on March 10, said the Commissioner Police Vijay Singh Meena.
Meena said that to maintain security and law and order, the counting place has been divided into outer cordon, inner cordon and isolation cordon. Counting personnel and agents will not be allowed to carry mobiles in the isolation cordon. The premises will be monitored through CCTV cameras, said a senior police official, adding, “Four watchtowers have been set up for strict vigil on the entire counting proceedings. Personnel would also be deployed on 17 buildings located near the counting venue. Such arrangements have been made so that EVMs are brought directly from the strong room to the counting venue.”

As per the directions of the Election Commission, the roads near the venue will be closed from the commencement of the counting process till the declaration of election result. The movement of vehicles will be restricted from a distance 100 meters from the counting place.
Separate parking lots will be made for officers, employees and media. Traffic will also be diverted on the day of counting. The nodal officer of the traffic system will be DCP Traffic Sankalp Sharma.
