KOCHI: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall over North Kerala till Monday.
Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.
Rain or thundershower is most likely to occur at most places in Kerala till July 26.
Yellow alert has been sounded for Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Friday and Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Saturday. Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert on Sunday and Monday.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail over Kerala coast and fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea.
According to 24-hour rainfall recorded on Thursday morning, Vythiri received the highest of 10cm rainfall.
