West Bengal: Soham Chakraborty surrenders, gets bail
KOLKATA: MLA-actor Soham Chakraborty, accused of assaulting a New Town restaurant owner on June 7, surrendered at a Barasat court on Thursday and was granted bail. The restaurant owner, Anisul Alam, lodged two FIRs against Soham at the Techno City police station on June 8.
Soham’s lawyer Alok Samajpati said he was booked under bailable sections. “The court granted him bail against a personal bond of Rs 2,000,” he said.
“The matter is sub judice and so, I have no comment,” Soham told reporters.
Shoham started a row among lawyers at the Barasat court on Thursday by sitting at the office of the public prosecutor till his petition came up for hearing in the afternoon. “How can an accused in a case filed by the state meet the public prosecutor and sit in his office? This puts a question mark on the law department,” said district bar association president Shibaprasad Mukherjee. PP Shantamay Basu said he and Soham had known each other for a long time. “I am a Trinamool functionary and Soham is an MLA from the party. I did not speak to him as the public prosecutor.”
