LUCKNOW: Nine persons, including five children and three women, drowned in two separate incidents in Prayagraj and Deoria districts on Wednesday, police said.
While four persons, including a Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawan and his kids, drowned in Ganga at Phaphamau ghat of Praygaraj five persons, including two children and three women, drowned in Gandak river in Deoria, police said.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the Deoria incident and announced help of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
Deoria SP Sankalp Sharma, who along with DM Akhand Pratap Singh reached the spot, said the deceased were identified as Ashiya Khatoon (40), Dilshad (14), Sakina (40), Tinku (12), Ayeesha (20) all Pachrukhia village.
Sharma said around 3.30pm, Dilshad slipped into deep water and started drowning. Other women, who were taking bath, tried to save but they too drowned.
Locals along with the help of boatmen managed to save two kids-- Palak (12) and Ayaan (15). Police later fished out all the bodies.
In Prayagraj incident, Umesh Kumar (45) of 101th Rapid Action Force (RAF) battalion in Shantipuram along with his son Vivekraj (11) and daughter Deepshikha (8), of Lakhisaray (Bihar) and their neighbour's son Abhinav (9) of Purvi Champaran (Bihar) had gone to take bath in Ganga at Phaphamau ghat on Wednesday morning.
