This sea bridge in Mumbai will be country's longest

22-km sea bridge

After more than 40 years since its initial proposal, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), a 22km bridge linking the island city with the mainland, is finally nearing completion.

Expected inauguration month

The main deck is being targeted to be completed by November and the connecting ramps on either side by June.

Country's longest sea bridge

At nearly 22km long, with 16.5km in sea, MTHL will be the country’s longest and the world’s 12th longest sea bridge.

Route

The bridge will be taking off at Sewri in south Mumbai, crossing over Thane Creek and terminating at Chirle in the distant outskirts of Navi Mumbai.

It is expected to take about 45 minutes from Colaba to the airport by the MTHL.

Extended connectors

The extended connectors in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will shorten travel time between Mumbai, Pune, Goa, and Nagpur by two hours.

Benefits

With projected annual savings of 1 crore litres of fuel a year and 25,680 million tons of CO2 emissions, it will have a capacity to handle 50,000-60,000 vehicles a day.
