MUMBAI: A 61-year-old jeweller from Rajasthan, Rameshkumar Ramani, has alleged that he was robbed of Rs 83 lakh after being drugged while on a train from Odisha to Mumbai. He has accused the coach attendant of spiking his snacks and alcohol, which he had carried along, during the journey.
He reported the incident to Dadar railway police on Thursday, who registered an FIR against an unidentified person.
The case was later handed over to Kurduwadi railway police in Pune for further investigation.
The complaint states that he took the train on Jun 11 on an ordinary ticket. “After paying the TC I got a seat at Pune. During the journey I had alcohol with the coach attendant and later slept on his seat. At midnight, I was allotted a seat.”
An officer from Kurduwadi police station told TOI that though they are probing the claims, there is doubt about the truthfulness of his account. The railway police have spoken to the coach attendant on phone and plan to record his statement. In his statement, the coach attendant admitted to having a drink with the jeweller. He has said the jeweller appeared perfectly fine all through, but claimed his belongings were stolen on reaching Dadar.
