MUMBAI: Lakhs of students travelling by the state transport buses across Maharashtra will now get their ST bus passes distributed directly in schools and colleges, announced MSRTC managing director Madhav Kusekar on Sunday. This will ensure that neither students nor their parents have to take the trouble of going to ST stands or waiting in long queues at counters to make bus passes.
The government has given a 66% concession to students to travel from home to school by the state bus -- which means students can get a monthly pass by paying only 33%.
Similarly, under a government scheme, free ST passes will be distributed in schools and junior colleges for all female students studying upto class 12. “From this year onwards, students will no longer have to stand in queues for the pass,” Kusekar said.
