No upkeep for months, waste piles up in green area now
NOIDA: Residents of Sector Eta 1 in Greater Noida have been complaining of a lack of sanitation at a GNIDA nursery managed by the horticulture department. For months, the nursery has been plagued by mounds of garbage, untended construction and demolition (C&D) waste, overgrown shrubs, and dried-up grass, residents said.
This neglect has transformed the area into a breeding ground for poisonous creatures such as snakes and insects, which have been entering nearby homes, posing a risk to over 200 families residing in the sector.

“There is a GNIDA nursery in Sector Eta 1 which is run by the horticulture department of the authority. The condition of the nursery is horrible. There is a pile of garbage all around as it has not been cleaned for years. Due to this, dirt in the nursery has spread everywhere. There are poisonous creatures like insects and snakes that have made their home there. These poisonous creatures come out of the nursery and enter the nearby houses, posing a serious risk for residents, ” said Deepak Bhati RWA president of Sector Eta-1, Greater Noida.
Bhati claimed that despite multiple complaints to the horticulture department for the last two years, there has been no cleaning in the nursery. “The non-functional streetlights around the nursery exacerbate the issue, leading to an uptick in thefts in the area. The current heatwave and scorching sun have worsened the situation as the grass is parched with piles of dried-up branches and plants in the nursery. The supervisor in charge is unresponsive and dismissive of our concerns. We urge the GNIDA CEO to look into the matter and replace the supervisor,” said Bhati.
A response from the authority is awaited.
