Electioneering gathers pace in Madhubani
MADHUBANI: Electioneering in Madhubani Lok Sabha constituency is reaching its peak as the poll date is coming closer. Madhubani will go to polls in the fifth phase on May 20. BJP's Ashok Yadav is fighting to retain the seat which he won by a margin of over 4.5 lakh votes in 2019. Challenging him is RJD's Ali Ashraf Fatmi.
Though there are 12 candidates in the fray, the main fight is between BJP and RJD.
Unlike in 2019, communal polarisation is missing this time.
The battle, in all likelihood, is not going to be a cakewalk for Yadav, said Subhesh Chandra Jha, a senior Congressman of Teontha village in Benipatti assembly segment. He added the BJP candidate has been struggling hard against anti-incumbency.
In fact, Ashok Yadav is banking solely on PM Narendra Modi's charisma, and even accepts as much when heckled by voters in villages.
On Tuesday, RJD's star campaigner Tejaswi Prasad Yadav cautioned people not to be misled by '400-paar propaganda" of BJP.
"Narendra Modi is not going to be the next PM," Tejashwi said while addressing a rally at Maksuda village under Pandaul block in Madhubani. He also made 24 promises to the electorate, many of which are parts of Congress manifesto like initiating the process of filling up 30 lakh vacancies in central govt departments and doing away with Agnipath scheme if INDIA bloc came to power at the Centre.
Jitendra Kumar, an unemployed youth, said unemployment and skyrocketing prices were issues that may work against the BJP candidate.
