Chhattisgarh high court chief justice Ramesh Sinha emphasises quality legal aid for marginalised communities

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha stressed that it is incumbent upon legal aid defense counsels to ensure quality legal aid for the marginalized and underprivileged sections of society. The Chief Justice further emphasized the crucial role of defense counsels in upholding the right to a fair trial and ensuring justice for all segments of society.
Chief justice Sinha, who is also the Patron-in-Chief of the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (CGSLSA), made these remarks while inaugurating a three-day advanced training programme for legal aid defense counsels at the Chhattisgarh State Judicial Academy (CSJA), Bilaspur, on Sunday, where he served as the chief guest of the event.
The programme, organized in collaboration with the CSJA, aims to empower legal aid defense counsels across 23 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) of the state with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively represent indigent clients and uphold the principles of a fair trial and justice.
The inaugural session of the training program was also graced by the presence of Justice Goutam Bhaduri, who presided over the event, and special guest Justice Sanjay K Agrawal. Justices Bhaduri and Agrawal shared their insights on enhancing quality legal representation through the LADC system and the evolving challenges in criminal defense.
Shirajuddin Qureshi, Director of CSJA, highlighted the mission and objectives of the training initiative in his welcome address. The event was attended by the Registrar General and Officers of the Registry of the High Court, Director and Officers of CSJA, Member Secretary, and Officers from SLSA.
