Maoists thrash 'informer' to death in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: Maoists abducted a villager, branded him a police informer and thrashed him to death in Abujhmarh area of Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district early Friday, two days after security forces had shot dead five Maoists and arrested three cadres in an Abujhmarh forest.
Narayanpur has been the centre of intense security operations and violent retaliation by Maoists in recent weeks.

On Thursday night, armed Maoists abducted Chaituram Mandavi from Thulthuli village on the fringes of Indravati National Park, 300km from Raipur. Witnesses saw the rebels abusing Mandavi and accusing him of working for the police. Mandavi was marched into a nearby forest where Maoists beat him until he died. His body was found dumped by the roadside on Friday morning.
Villagers were so terrified that none, not even Mandavi's family members, dared to inform police. News eventually trickled to the cops and a team was being sent to the remote location to retrieve the body at the time of going to press.
Four days ago, Maoists murdered a policeman's brother in Narayanpur's Kohkameta, branding him a police informer. Cops denied he worked for them and said he ran a tea stall in Narayanpur town. A day later, police launched a major operation in Abujhmarh in which six Maoists were killed. Now, another villager has been murdered by the insurgents.
