Raipur: Senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal, a prominent minister in the Vishnudeo Sai government in Chhattisgarh, has resigned from his position as a member of the state legislative assembly following his election to the Lok Sabha.
Agrawal, aged 65, achieved a significant victory in the Raipur Lok Sabha constituency, defeating his closest competitor, Congress candidate and AICC secretary Vikas Upadhyaya, by a record margin of over 5.75 lakh votes.

Agrawal formally submitted his resignation to Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Raman Singh on Monday. Representing the Raipur (South) Vidhan Sabha segment, Agrawal has been a prominent figure and a popular leader in state politics.
Despite stepping down from the legislative assembly, Agrawal, who manages the school education portfolio, has yet to resign from his ministerial post in the state government. In a recent statement to the media, Agrawal mentioned that while he is legally entitled to retain his ministerial role for up to six months, he intends to resign whenever directed by the Chief Minister.
Agrawal's political career spans several decades. The eight-time legislator initially entered the Vidhan Sabha of undivided Madhya Pradesh in 1990. After the formation of Chhattisgarh, he served as the state’s Home Minister from 2003 to 2005 and held ministerial positions in three consecutive BJP governments under the leadership of former Chief Minister Raman Singh.
