Rajkot: A 27-year-old man from Mendarda town in Junagadh found himself the victim of an audacious theft – not of gold or jewels, but 36 kg of human hair worth Rs 1.44 lakh.
Following a complaint by victim Balu Vaghela, Mendarda police swiftly arrested of the 40-year-old main accused, Asif Dal, and his two accomplices, recovering both the hair and the motorcycle.
In his complaint, Balu, a resident of Moti Khodiyar village in Mendarda taluka, reported that he and his cousin Narshi Vaghela were returning from their cousin Raju Vaghela’s house in Likhala village of Savarkundla taluka in Amreli district, when they were intercepted by three men driving an Eeco van near Moti Khodiyar village. The men threatened them with a knife, snatched the bag containing human hair, and stole their motorcycle before fleeing the scene.
The complaint was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for robbery against three unknown individuals.
The police arrested Asif along with 23-year-old Safir Solanki and 40-year-old Dinesh Solanki. Investigating officer S N Sonara said that Asif was also involved in the hair trading business. Safir is associated with the snacks business while Dinesh is a driver by profession.
Upon arresting the accused, Asif revealed that Balu had taken an advance of Rs 12 lakh from his employer. When Balu refused to repay the money, Asif’s employer filed a complaint against him at Kodinar police station. Following this, Balu left Kodinar and moved to Mendarda a few months ago, Asif alleged.
Further investigation revealed that Asif had been monitoring Balu’s movements for the past month. Balu told the police that no one had demanded any money from him. The Mendarda police will investigate whether there is any complaint against Balu at Kodinar police station regarding the Rs 12 lakh advance.
