Ranchi: The lack of adequate classrooms in some government schools of the capital is forcing children enrolled in Classes III, IV and V to take lessons in a single room on a regular basis. The students of Classes KG to II occupy the space on veranda of Government Primary School, Lalpur.
The teachers find it difficult to manage the strength of over 100 students of three classes in a single classroom.
In-charge of Rajkiyakrit Prathmik Vidyalaya, Lalpur, Rina Rani Ekka said, “The building of the school is dilapidated. Earlier, we had two classrooms. But today, we are forced to hold classes for little children in the verandah of the school campus. It is challenging to manage students of three classes concurrently because we can devote time to only one class at a time in a single classroom.”
When the lessons for Class III are imparted, the students of Classes IV and V have to wait for their lessons. The verandah is used as a kitchen as well as a classroom for the students enrolled in KG, I, and II.
At Ramlakhan Singh Yadav High School in Kokar, a similar situation exists. The school has a total enrollment of over 431 pupils and only four classrooms are available for holding classes 6 to 10. The school conducts the lessons of classes VI and VII in the verandah of the building on an alternate basis. “The building is so dilapidated that it raises concern for the safety of the students,” said Nil Mani Ekka, in-charge of the school.
Similarly, KM Malik Rajkiyakrit Madhya Vidyalaya, Lalpur, has only five classrooms to accommodate nearly 300 children in KG to Class VIII. Lessons for the students of Classes IV and V are held in the same classroom.
Rajkiyakrit Madhya Vidyalaya, Khora Toli has only five classrooms for the students of KG to Class VIII. The students of Classes II and III attend classes in the veranda due to lack of adequate classrooms.
A V Bilung, the district education officer of Ranchi, said, “The buildings became dilapidated during Covid-19 due to lack of maintenance. We are working to get the buildings repaired soon. A sum of Rs 10 lakh has been granted to each school during the 2022 academic session for the repair of the buildings that house high schools.”
